Stem Cell Treatment for osteoarthritis: Primary Osteoarthritis is mostly related to ageing. along with aging cartilage starts to degenerate due to increase in water content in cartilage. Repetitive use of joints causes damage to the cartilage that leads to joint pain and swelling. Osteoarthritis commonly affects the hands, feet, spine and large weight joints, such as the hips and knees.
Conventional treatment is mainly management of pain in the initial stages with medications, physical therapy and in later stages by surgical procedures like joint replacement etc.
Stem cell Therapy for Osteoarthritis
In a trail, which was conducted on 15 patients suffering from Primary Osteoarthritis Grade 3 and Grade 4, bone marrow was obtained from posterior ileac crest of the patients (autologous) was processed under cGMP conditions in class 100 clean room and AuBMSCs were introduced into articular space via arthroscopy.- OA-related pain was evaluated based on the modified Western Ontario and McMaster University Arthritis index (WOMAC)
- Cartilage volume was evaluated by cartilage mapping using MRI.
- All reported results were obtained pre-treatment, and at 6 months post-treatment.
